HyQvia is a liquid medicine that is given under the skin (subcutaneously) to treat primary immunodeficiency (PI) in people 2 years and older.
When it comes to success in managing PI, less is more.
Everyone's experience is different, but this gives you an idea of the "general" experience. Mary, Angela, and Michael talked to their doctors to see if HyQvia could be right for them. Together, they were able to decide about an infusion schedule and location that worked for them.
Say hy to Mary.
Mary wants to infuse at home.
Meet Angela.
Angela wants to maximize her time between infusions.
Get to know Michael.
Michael doesn't like needles, so infusing once a month* works best for him.
*every 3 or 4 weeks.
Mary’s Story
“With HyQvia, I’m able to fit my IG treatments into my routine, and not the other way around. PI is just a small part of my life. It doesn’t define who I am, and IG treatment has helped keep it that way.”

She’s a SoCal girl through and through. When she and her husband, Michael, aren’t hosting a barbecue or visiting vineyards, they’re strolling beaches with their pups, Maddie and Marco. She wants infusing to take as little of her time as possible, because there are so many other things she loves to do.
She started on an IVIG treatment and then switched to HyQvia because she wanted to infuse at home rather than an infusion center. After a few visits from a nurse to make sure her infusions were being done properly and going well, Mary was comfortable with it all.
Before switching to HyQvia, Mary and Michael referred to her four-times-a-month infusions as “date nights” because they were so frequent. She refused to see her infusions as an intrusion. Today, they still refer to her infusions as “date nights,” but there are fewer “infusion date nights” and more “real date nights.”
Angela’s Story
“I’m able to be more present for my family, for my students…and for myself.”

Her love of running started with cross country in 7th grade. She hasn’t stopped since. This year, she’s training for two half marathons and would love to run a full next summer. She chooses HyQvia so she can have more time between infusions to focus on her goals.
With HyQvia, she infuses once a month at home. She uses two sites because of the volume of IG she needs. Her infusions take about 2 hours. She uses this time to watch a new documentary, calls her sister to catch up, or writes out her busy family of five’s practice schedules.
She wants as many days between infusions as possible. She has too much to do, like out-of-town charity races, working volunteer hours at the library, and, of course, spending time with her three kids.
Michael’s story
“It’s nice to have an IG treatment that allows me 28 days between infusions to focus on the most important part of my life: my family.”

When Michael isn’t working at his marketing job during the day, he’s with his family. They’re everything to him. From basketball games to backyard cookouts, it’s the little, everyday things in life he enjoys the most.
On top of not liking needles, he had difficulty with venous access. He switched to a once-weekly subQ treatment but was still unhappy with the number of needles. After an initial ramp-up schedule was complete, he began monthly* infusions with HyQvia. He learned how to self-infuse and now infuses at home every 4 weeks using only 2 infusion sites.
*Every 3 or 4 weeks.
Now, Michael makes the most of his time by focusing on his family, playing basketball with his boys, and being a highly respected leader at work. He wanted fewer needle sticks and got it, and he now relaxes and watches TV during infusions.
*Every 3 or 4 weeks.
